Rite Aid reports July sales of $2 billion, up 4.1%

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid on Thursday posted July sales of $2 billion for the four weeks ended July 26, representing growth of 4.1%. Same-store sales increased 4.6% over the prior-year period. July front-end same-store sales increased 1.5%. Pharmacy comparable sales, which included an approximate 203 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, increased 6%. Prescription count at comparable stores increased 3.9% over the prior-year period.
 
Prescription sales accounted for 68.6% of drug store sales, and third party prescription sales represented 97.5% of pharmacy sales.
 
Same-store sales for the 21-week period ended July 26 increased 3.5% over the prior-year period. Front-end same-store sales increased 0.5% while pharmacy same-store sales increased 5%. Prescription count at comparable stores increased 2.8% over the prior-year period.
 
Total drug store sales for the 21 week period increased 3% with sales of $10.4 billion. Prescription sales represented 68.4% of total drug store sales, and third party prescription sales represented 97.5% of pharmacy sales.
