ORLANDO, Fla. — Publix is testing a new smaller-box concept — a 20,000-sq.-ft. prototype that would better suit smaller communities — according to a report in the Orlando Business Journal published Wednesday.
"A smaller store would also compete with niche grocers, like Trader Joe’s — which debuts in Central Florida next month — and other smaller specialty stores like Walmart's Walmart on Campus concept," the report stated.
According to the report, typical Publix grocery stores can range from 40,000 sq. ft. to 60,000 sq. ft.
