Northeast Pharmacy Services Corp. signs its 250 independents to NCPA

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Northeast Pharmacy Services Corp. has signed up the approximately 250 independent community pharmacies that it serves in New England to the National Community Pharmacists Association effective July 1, 2013, the groups announced Monday.

“NCPA prides itself on our tireless efforts on behalf of America’s independent community pharmacies and the patients they serve,” stated Douglas Hoey, NCPA CEO. “Our effectiveness increases when more independent community pharmacy organizations, owners and supporters officially join our ranks, which is why NPSC’s decision to come on board is so exciting. Their business model helps NPSC’s participating pharmacies be more competitive in the challenging marketplace. As a result, their patients receive better services. We believe the partnership between NCPA and NPSC will be mutually beneficial.”

“The commitment to join our organizations on behalf of our pharmacy owners strengthens the future of their businesses,” added NPSC’s president and CEO, Patricia Monaco. “NCPA has been expanding its impact in Washington, D.C., and growing its support for local efforts.  The synergy between our two organizations became obvious.”

Over the past couple of decades NPSC has grown from a group of Massachusetts independent community pharmacy owners seeking to offer prescription services for John Hancock employees under a single contract, to a regional organization operating throughout New England offering a wide range of services to participating pharmacies.

NPSC has been successful in assisting their network in meeting regulatory requirements including HIPAA, finding actionable business opportunities, administering third party contracts and fiduciary payments, providing assistance to those seeking to become accredited for selling durable medical equipment, prostetics, orthotics and supplies for Medicare Part B beneficiaries and offering business development services for their network.
