DSN covers all the action at GMDC/FMI conference

Attendees of the GMDC/FMI Health and Wellness @Retail 2013 conference held May 31 to June 3 in San Antonio were treated to live coverage of the event courtesy of a special series of daily print editions of DSN produced on site at the conference.

Highlights of the event included:

  • Booz & Co. chief retail strategist and senior executive adviser Thom Blischok identified the growing opportunity ethnic marketing will represent to retailers through 2025. According to Blischok, as many as 47% of U.S. shoppers will be of an ethnic background before 2025.
  • Edgewood Consulting Group principal Jeff Rehling was on hand to share a new customer retention strategy. "Four-out-of-10 consumers will easily switch stores," Rehling noted. "Those are the people you want to protect if you have them," Rehling outlined a four-prong strategy to help retailers and supplier partners better link store merchandising and marketing to patient-oriented decision-making called LINC (i.e., Loyalty, Information and Incentives, Nutrition and Connections).
  • RetailNet Group debuted its Global Store Tours database, which the group calls the largest repository of store-level photography.
  • The Retail Gateway launched its latest virtual connectivity innovation — GMDC365 — a new web portal that facilitates web-based video conferencing for retail buyers and suppliers to conduct remote meetings in a virtual faceto-face. "The goal of the website [is] to create a B-to-B-style site where you can streamline communication and information," Trey Holder, Retail Gateway president, told DSN. The websites also will be able to stream videos, host press releases and even host social media feeds.
