Diet Coke revamps look, debuts four flavors

1/10/2018

A major revamp is underway for Diet Coke. The brand has unveiled a redesign of its cans and announced the launch of four new flavors, which are to join the product line. The latest additions to the Diet Coke family are Diet Coke Ginger Lime, Diet Coke Feisty Cherry, Diet Coke Twisted Mango and Diet Coke Zesty Blood Orange.

“Diet Coke is one of the most iconic brands loved by millions of fans in North America,” Rafael Acevedo, Coca-Cola North America’s group director at Diet Coke, said. “Throughout this relaunch journey, we wanted to be bold, think differently and be innovative in our approach. And most importantly, we wanted to stay true to the essence of Diet Coke, while recasting the brand for a new generation.”

In order to connect with a whole new audience, the Atlanta-based company spoke with more than 10,000 people from across the country to get their ideas and inputs on potential flavor extensions, packaging updates and more. With these insights, Diet Coke was able to develop and test more than 30 flavor combinations, which contained tropical, citrus and botanical notes, the company said.

“We know Diet Coke has all kinds of fans — from people who have loved its great taste since it launched in 1982 to millennial men and women who are always looking to try new things. We’re modernizing what has made Diet Coke so special for a new generation. The same unapologetic confidence still comes through and the same great Diet Coke taste people love is here to stay, but we’re making the brand more relatable and more authentic,” Acevedo said.

Diet Coke will continue to be offered in all current existing packaging, and the new flavors will be packaged in a 12-oz. can and sold as either on-the-go singles or packs of eight, which will hit store shelves later in January.
