WASHINGTON An executive from Anglo-Swedish drug maker AstraZeneca has been appointed senior operating officer of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, the PhRMA said Wednesday.

AstraZeneca VP corporate external relations Chip Davis will report directly to PhRMA president and CEO Billy Tauzin to help with the organization’s leadership transition. Tauzin said recently he would leave the organization, which he has led for the last five and a half years.

Davis will start in the new position next Monday and will take a leave of absence from AstraZeneca until a replacement for Tauzin has been named.
