Shipment of Materials: Film should be separately slip sheeted, securely packed and thoroughly protected to prevent any possible scratching, puncturing or folding. Contents of package should be identified on the outside as to type of material contained within and clearly labeled for date of insertion and name of magazine. Proofs for identification of all advertisements must accompany all supplied material. Ship materials to: Drug Store News, 425 Park Avenue, NY, NY 10022. Att'n: Theresa Nicosia. General Requirements
No Production Charge: 4-color, screened negatives, right reading, emulsion down. 2-color and black-and-white, screened negatives, right reading, emulsion down.
Extra Production Charges: Minimum charge $50.00. Necessary alterations or repairs on film. All material requiring camera work, screening Benday's, strip-ins, color separating and special handwork. Film negatives or positives supplied with emulsion on wrong side. Photographs, artwork, typefaces and sizes not stocked by printer will be supplied on order and charged at cost plus handling charge. Film output and proofing of electronic files is chargeable. All 4-color material needing color separations or screening, etc., subject to estimate (time permitting) for production charges and has an earlier closing date. We will invoice additional production charges.
Film Quality: All film should be dimensionally stable of identical gauge (0.004 is recommended). Film should be made by contact to ensure firm, strong dots without hand alteration.
Register: All film should be supplied in one piece (per color) to ensure accurate register. Accurate register marks should appear centered on four sides of all 2-color and 4-color material. Spread ads should have fold-line mark clearly indicated.
Screens: For black-and-white and 2-color, 110-line screen recommended. For 4-color process, 133-line screen.
Density of Tone: For 4-color wet printing, the sum percentages of tonal values should not exceed 280%, and no more than one solid should be used. The maximum screened tone value for any color should be 85%; a required value over 85% should be made solid. 4-color films should be made with the least amount of overprinting possible to avoid excessive mixing of inks.
Fine Lettering: Thin lines and medium or small lettering should be restricted to one color.
Surprinting: Use screen of not more than 30% density for the background where type is surprinted.
Reverse Lettering: Reproduce all reverse lettering with a minimum of colors, using key color for shape of letters and making lettering in subordinate colors slightly larger than key color to reduce register problems. Small letters with fine serifs are not practical and should be avoided.
Number of Proofs: Proofs for identification of all advertisements must accompany all supplied material. Approved color proofs and two sets of progressive proofs should accompany all material. If corrections are made on the supplied material, proofs showing these corrections should be furnished.
Paper: Proofs should have no variance in color value, and should be pulled (Wet) on comparable machine-coated stock.
Rotation: Four-color rotation: Black, blue, red, yellow (Wet).
Direction: Prove side to side.
Selection of Inks: Four standard second AAAA color and matched colors available. Use standard proofing inks as approved by N.A.P.I.M. as recommended to advertising material for web offset publications. Match density as per P.E.R.I. Standard Reference. Use G.A.T.F. Color Bars.
